What will it cost?

  • Free. There is no cost for a COVID-19 vaccine for those who are Medicare eligible.
  • Those who are not Medicare eligible will need to visit a state managed vaccination clinic.

When will it be available?

Medihouse will commence vaccinating priority groups from Monday, 12th April 2021

Why is it important to get vaccinated?

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect against infectious diseases. Vaccines
strengthen your immune system by training it to recognise and fight against specific
viruses. When you get vaccinated, you are protecting yourself and helping to protect the
whole community. The COVID-19 vaccine will help us better control the spread of this virus.

What happens at the COVID-19 vaccination?

To be vaccinated you will get a needle in your arm. You may need to have another injection about 3 months or 12 weeks later. The person giving you your vaccination will tell you when you may need to have the subsequent vaccination. After vaccination, you will need to remain under observation within clinic premises for at least 30 minutes.

What to expect after getting the vaccination

As with any vaccine, you may have some side effects after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. Common side effects after a vaccine include:

  • pain or swelling at the injection site
  • tiredness
  • headache
  • muscle pain
  • chills
  • fever
  • joint pain
  • serious reactions are rare

Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe?

All vaccines are thoroughly tested for safety before they are approved for use in Australia. This includes a rigorous assessment and approval processes.

If you would like to view the process, please go to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) website below or speak to your doctor or nurse.
